You’re not failing. You’re overloaded.

If you’re a busy working mum, you probably know this feeling well:
  • Juggling work, family and everyone else’s needs
  • Constantly “on”, but quietly exhausted
  • Snapping at the people you love… then feeling awful about it
  • Longing to be more present with your children — and with yourself

And underneath it all, a quiet sense that there must be more to life than rushing, coping and holding it all together.

If this sounds familiar, you're not alone.

Hi. I'm Sian.

For many years, I lived in constant go-mode.

I was juggling work, family, responsibility and expectations, whilst quietly ignoring my own needs. On the outside, I looked capable. On the inside, I was overwhelmed and exhausted.

And at home?

I shouted.

Not all the time — but more than I wanted to admit.

I’d snap when I was tired. Lose patience when I felt unheard or under pressure. Then feel awful afterwards — full of guilt, shame, and promises to “do better next time”.

I loved my children fiercely… so why did I keep reacting in ways that didn’t align with the mum I wanted to be?

You can learn more about my story in my blog, 'Taming My Jackal'.

The turning point

Everything began to change when I discovered Compassionate Communication (or, as I like to call it, 'Giraffe-Speak').

Through this training, I realised that I wasn't shouting because I was a bad mum...It was a sign that my needs weren’t being met.  And that I’d lost connection with myself before I ever lost it with my children.

At first, as I began to practise my new skills, things didn't always go to plan. Although I now had the tools at my fingertips, I just wasn't able to access them when I needed them most.

For a while, I felt like a total failure.

But over time, something shifted. And I owe that shift to a giraffe and a jackal! With their help, I learned how to:

  • Pause before reacting
  • Understand what was really going on underneath my anger
  • Repair after ruptures instead of drowning in guilt
  • Speak to my children — and myself — with more honesty and kindness

Our family relationships softened.

Not perfectly. Not magically.

But deeply, and lastingly.

What's more, my children (and my husband!) started to pick up these skills too. They learned how to understand their own feelings, needs and behaviour, how to empathise, and how to express themselves more clearly and compassionately.

This, for me, is priceless.

Not only because it's given me the most wonderful relationship with my children (the 'terrible teens' really don't have to be so terrible!) but also because I know how important emotional intelligence is for their future success and happiness.

Raising compassionate kids

In fact, research  shows that emotional literacy and effective communication skills are key predictors of long-term wellbeing, resilience and healthy relationships. Yet very little of this is being taught in schools.

And in a time where so many people seem to be stressed-out, anxious or angry, it's clear that the world needs this now - even more than ever before.

The truth is, it's down to us to raise our children as compassionate, emotionally intelligent beings.

So it's essential that we do this consciously because they learn from how we:

  • Respond when things go wrong
  • Handle big emotions
  • Repair after conflict
  • Treat ourselves when we’re struggling

As mothers, this may seem like yet another huge responsibility we have to carry - but don't worry:

The Giraffe Mamas Circle exists so you don’t have to carry it alone.

About the Giraffe Mamas Circle

The Giraffe Mamas Circle is an online community for  busy mums who want to:

  • Feel calmer and less reactive at home.
  • Communicate with more clarity and compassion.
  • Reconnect with themselves, not just their roles.
  • Model emotional intelligence and empathy to their children.
  • Slow down without guilt.

Grounded in the GIRAFFE Framework, the Circle supports you to build steadiness from the inside out.

At the heart of the community is a learning hub, where you’ll be introduced to the core elements of Giraffe-Speak in a gentle, non-judgemental way — at your own pace, in your own time.

The hub comprises a mixture of self-paced courses, live workshops and events, together with opportunities for genuine connection with real women who understand the challenges of modern-day mothering.

Inside the Circle, you'll find:

  • Short, accessible foundational teachings
  • Practical tools and prompts you can use in real life
  • Tips and resources for sharing Giraffe-Speak with your children
  • Opportunities to reflect, share and receive support
  • An emphasis on self-empathy, rest and acceptance — not fixing yourself
